I am currently in network with a couple insurance companies including BCBS, United Healthcare/UBH/Optum and Aetna. I am not paneled with Blue Value. If you do not use insurance, I can provide you with paperwork for reimbursement from your insurance company if you have out-of-network benefits.
Investment for self-pay: $125/session if you choose not to use your insurance or I am not in network.
The benefits of self-pay vs insurance and some considerations include:
Privacy. Insurance companies require disclosure of highly personal information, the confidentiality and privacy of which cannot be guaranteed.
Clinical independence. Managed care can be more involved in determining the details of therapy than some people like. If you want the flexibility to choose the modalities we use, the length of your sessions, and how often we meet, self-pay is the way to go.
Wellness perspective. Many people don’t want a mental health diagnosis in their permanent medical record, or they might be seeking therapy for non-medical reasons, such as personal growth. Insurance companies require a diagnosis.
To Use Out-of-Network Benefits
Check your out-of-network benefits: These are typically in the Summary of Benefits that is included in a member information packet or on your insurance company website
Call your insurance company to verify: The best way to be absolutely sure of your benefits is to call your insurance company member services line and ask:
What is my out-of-network deductible for outpatient mental health?
How much of my deductible has been met this year?
What is my out-of-network coinsurance for outpatient mental health?
Do I need a referral from an in-network provider to see someone out-of-network?
How do I submit claim forms for reimbursement?
Ask me for a superbill: I’ll provide a document called a superbill that you send directly to your insurance company at the end of each month which will detail how many sessions you’ve had and the total fee.
Receive reimbursement! You’ll continue to pay the entire session fee at the time of service, but depending on your specific plan, your insurance company will mail you a check to reimburse a portion of the cost. Please note, fees for missed and cancelled appointments are not eligible for reimbursement.
Payment HSA/HRA cards, cash, check and visa and mastercard are accepted for payment.
Cancellation Policy I ask that you notify us at least 24 hours in advance if you are unable to keep your scheduled appointment. A $100 cancellation/no-show fee will be applied to your account for any sessions cancelled within less than 24 hours of the scheduled session.
